The president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, said this Friday from the National Center for Disaster Prevention that the earthquake that shook the Latin American country has been "the largest in the last 100 years."

The strong earthquake has claimed the lives of at least 5 people, 3 in the state of Chiapas and 2 in the state of Tabasco.

At the moment, 65 replicates have been registered in the country, most of them 6.1 magnitudes. "It is foreseeable that a replica of one degree less can happen" in comparison with the earthquake, that is to say of 7 degrees of magnitude, it has pointed out the Mexican agent.

The Latin American country has deployed federal forces, including the Army, Navy and Federal Police, which try to "review the effects" that could have caused the natural phenomenon.

An earthquake of magnitude 8.2 has been registered on the south coast of Mexico,  a tsunami alert for Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, and Ecuador, according to the Center of the Pacific Tsunami Warning (PTWC).

The epicenter of the quake has been located at a depth of 33 kilometers and 119 kilometers from the city of Tres Picos, in the Mexican state of Chiapas.
